Submitting Revisions to Issued Permits

Definition

A revision to an issued permit is an update to the plans after a Building permit has been issued. Revisions can be major changes such as increase in project scope (new square footage or structural alterations) or minor changes to the plans or detail based on site specific conditions.

It is important to note: Revisions to issued permits differ from resubmittals and deferred submittals.

  • Resubmittals of plans are responses to plan check comments related to projects that are still under plan review. (Please see Resubmittal of Plans for submittal information)
  • Deferred submittals are a portion of a construction design not included in the initial Building permit application and submitted after permit issuance for review and approval. (Please see Resubmittal of Plans for submittal information)

Revision Submittal Process

Revisions are required to be submitted, approved and issued prior to requesting an inspection for the work. 

The City of Menlo Park only accepts on-line digital revisions of digital plans and supporting documents. All plans and supporting documents are to be submitted digitally through the City’s Accela permit management system using the Accela Citizen Access Portal (ACA). Please visit the Building Division’s Online service web page for information associated with how to register for an ACA account. The digital file specifications for all plans can be found on the Online services page under  File specifications.

  1. Log into the Accela Citizen Access Portal (ACA), click on the "My Records" header, and select the applicable record the revision is for. If you do not see the permit under the My Records header, please contact the Permit Team with all permit/account details in order to be associated to the record. Please include all relevant documentation of association with that record.
  2. On the individual record, scroll to the bottom and click "Create Revision" (see image below for location). 
  3. Follow all prompts to provide a narrative description of the Revision and upload any files necessary for its review. 

It is important to note

  • The Revision record will have its own REV### record number, which exists for the purposes of reviewing the Revision itself.
  • All fees/inspections remain on the main record.
  • No fees are required upon submittal of a Revision, but will be charged afterward, based on the plan check review time; payment of all outstanding Revision fees is required before a project can receive its final inspection.
