300 Middlefield rendering

The Menlo Park Fire Protection District is proposing complete redevelopment of the existing Fire Station 1 at 300 Middlefield Road, including a training tower, consolidation of office and Board space, and underground parking. The proposal includes a temporary fire station at 114 Santa Margarita Avenue while Station 1 is being reconstructed.

The project would include the following actions:

  • Zoning Ordinance text amendment to allow greater than 60 percent FAR (Floor Area Ratio)
  • General Plan Land Use Designation change
  • General Plan text amendment to allow the proposed FAR within the Public Facilities designation
  • Use Permit for the higher FAR, overall development as an emergency services facility (Special Use) on both sites, and the use of hazardous materials (diesel fuel for an emergency generator and propane for training exercises)
  • Architectural Control for the buildings and site improvements.
  • Environmental review under the California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA).

Current status

The project has been in initial staff review, and has been scheduled for a Planning Commission study session on November 17, 2025.

Staff will update this webpage with new project updates and public meeting announcements as they become available.
