Jack W. Lyle Park

Jack W. Lyle Park is a 4.55-acre park located directly adjacent to Rosener House. It was originally known as Los Amigos Park and was part of the old Fremont Elementary School. The park provides a comfortable meeting spot for local residents of all ages. It is home to a playground, a basketball court, and a multi-use field, making it an ideal place to spend an afternoon.

Jack W. Lyle Park is named in memory of the only police officer killed while on duty in Menlo Park. 

Jack William Lyle was born July 4, 1931. He was 18 when his family moved to Menlo Park, California, in 1949. Jack met Norma, the girl next door, the day he moved in. Jack and Norma began a courtship, speaking to each other over their backyard fence, and were married a year later in September 1950. Jack discovered he loved Menlo Park, and after serving in the Air Force, he and Norma chose to stay and raise a family here.

Police work seemed a natural outlet for Jack's personality and many talents. Jack was sworn in as a police officer on June 9, 1952, and served until September 22, 1960, when he was killed in the line of duty responding to a call for service. Jack was 29 years old and left behind Norma and their four children, aged 2, 4, 6, and 9 years old at the time. Norma lived the rest of her life in Menlo Park raising her and Jack's children. She never remarried. Jack was remembered as a generous man, full of humor, and as a devoted husband and father.
