City administrative office closures and holiday impacts

City offices will be closed from Wednesday, Dec. 24, 2025 through Thursday, Jan. 1, 2026 for the holidays. City offices will re-open Friday, Jan. 2, 2026. Menlo Park Shuttles will be out of service Dec. 25 and Jan. 1, 2026. Menlo Park and Belle Haven Library will be closed Dec. 24, Dec. 25 and Jan. 1, 2026. Also, on Dec. 31, both libraries will close at 6 p.m.

Police respond to mental health incident

Menlo Park Police responded to calls of a person with a gun. When officers arrived, it was determined that the person and vehicle matched the description of a missing and suicidal person. The scene was secured, and after a planned approach of the vehicle, the person was found deceased by suicide in the vehicle.

Overnight parking enforcement deferred for the holidays

The City will suspend residential overnight parking enforcement during the holiday season. The overnight parking ordinance will not be enforced beginning Monday morning, Dec. 22, through Sunday morning, Jan. 4, 2026. It will resume at 2 a.m. on Jan. 5, 2026. All parked vehicles without a parking permit will receive a courtesy warning.

Upcoming solar carport installation at Kelly Park Dec. 17

Public Works will soon begin the installation of solar panel carports at the Kelly Field parking lot (100 Terminal Ave.). Construction is anticipated to start Dec. 17 and is estimated to be completed by April 2026. The work will take place from Monday through Friday from 8 a.m.–5 p.m.

Volunteer for the One Day Homeless Count Jan. 29, 2026

San Mateo County is seeking volunteers for the 2026 One Day Homeless Count, scheduled for Thursday, Jan. 29, 2026 from 5–10 a.m. The One Day Homeless Count is a federally required snapshot of the number of people experiencing homelessness on a single morning. Volunteers document individuals living outdoors, in vehicles or in other locations not meant for habitation.

Apply for the 2026 Community Police Academy by Jan. 2, 2026

The Police Community Academy gives our community members a hands-on introduction to police work. Participants will gain firsthand insight into how a police department works. The Academy is a six-week program open to ages 18 years and older and takes place Wednesdays from 6:30–9:30 p.m. from Jan. 14 through Feb.18, 2026. The deadline to apply is Jan. 2, 2026.

This annual event honors Ruby Bridges, who at just six years old became the first Black student to integrate an all-white elementary school in New Orleans in 1960.

Solar panel installation at City Hall
