After six weeks of presentations, demonstrations and interactive exercises, community members completed the Menlo Park Community Police Academy on Feb. 18. The participants are commended for their commitment and active involvement in this program, learning about the various aspects of public safety. The curriculum consisted of presentations on the topics of police records, wellness, department structure, investigations, code enforcement and practical, hands-on exercises in the areas of laws of arrest, traffic enforcement, firearms, defensive tactics, S.W.A.T. operations, crisis negotiation, dispatch and many other law enforcement functions and responsibilities. Participants also had the opportunity to participate in a ride-a-long and tour the department. Various officers and professional staff facilitated on topics in their areas of knowledge, skill and experience.
