Belle Haven Community Campus and Burgess Playground received multiple awards at the Oct. 3 American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) San Francisco Section.
Belle Haven Community Campus (BHCC) – Following a multi-year engagement process with community input, the City and Meta partnered on the design and construction of this 38,000 sq. ft. facility that is home to the Belle Haven Library, Belle Haven Pool, Belle Haven Youth Center, Menlo Park Senior Center and Onetta Harris Community Center. The facility is LEED Platinum, all electric, includes photovoltaic panels, air source heat pumps, a battery microgrid and electric vehicle charging stations. While the microgrid is still in construction, the building has been operational since May 2024 and provides our community with beautiful spaces. BHCC received awards for Outstanding Architecture Project, Outstanding Sustainable Engineering Project and Outstanding Energy Project. Congratulations to all the individuals who provided input and worked to bring this facility to life!
Burgess Playground – After gathering extensive community feedback, the City celebrated the ribbon cutting of the new Burgess Playground in June 2024. A key focus of the design was to provide more accessibility for children with all abilities. The playground includes new accessible equipment, a rubberized surface around all play areas, benches, picnic tables and fences adorned with decorative laser-cut oak leaf designs. Burgess Playground received the award for Outstanding Small Project. Kudos to all City staff and community members who provided feedback and/or worked to make this vision become a reality!
