Update on Housing Element capacity and downtown development schedule

City Council will receive an informational item at its July 14 meeting with an update on the City's progress toward meeting its Regional Housing Needs Allocation (RHNA) of nearly 3,000 new dwelling units for the 2023-2031 Housing Element cycle. The update also describes changes to projected housing capacity in the Housing Element, which currently exceeds the City's RHNA in every income category.

ADU Ordinance update adopted June 9

At its June 9 meeting, City Council adopted an updated accessory dwelling unit ordinance (the ADU Ordinance), which will be effective July 10. The ADU Ordinance was submitted to the State Department of Housing and Community Development (HCD) for a required 60-day review. HCD has contacted the City and confirmed that they have no comments for the ADU Ordinance, and no amendments will be necessary.

City Council to consider update to City’s ADU Ordinance May 19

At its May 19 meeting, City Council will review proposed updates to the City’s ADU Ordinance, consider the Planning Commission’s recommendation and determine whether to introduce the ordinance. The updated ADU Ordinance would comprehensively replace and update the Menlo Park Municipal Code for consistency with State ADU law and incorporate local objective standards.

Learn about updates to the Anti-Displacement Plan

The Anti-displacement Plan reviews and analyzes strategies suggested at past Housing and Environmental Justice Element community meetings and makes recommendations for which of the numerous strategies to implement. The Housing Commission will be reviewing the Plan and making a recommendation to the City Council at its May 6 meeting at 6:30 p.m. Join the meeting to learn more about the Plan.

Planning Commission to review an update to City’s ADU Ordinance

Tonight, April 13, at 7 p.m., the Planning Commission is scheduled to review and consider a recommendation to the City Council to adopt a new ADU Ordinance, which would comprehensively replace and update Chapter 16.79 (Accessory Dwelling Units) for consistency with State ADU law and to incorporate local objective standards. The Planning Commission is a recommending body to the City Council.

Affordable Housing and Inclusionary Zoning Study Virtual Meeting April

Community members are invited to learn more about the San Mateo County Multi-City Inclusionary Zoning and Affordable Housing Study at a virtual public meeting April 13 from 6–7 p.m. The City of Menlo Park is participating in this multi-city initiative to explore updates to and/or enact new affordable housing policies to be applied to new development projects.
