Published on April 06, 2026
April is Distracted Driving Awareness Month, a national campaign to raise awareness about the dangers of distracted driving and educate the public on safer driving habits to prevent accidents. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, 3,208 people were killed in motor vehicle crashes involving distracted drivers in 2024. Distracted driving is any activity that diverts attention from driving. This includes phone usage, eating and drinking, playing with the navigation or radio controls and anything that distracts the driver from paying attention to the road.
Here are some recommendations to help you stay focused while driving:
- Keep your cell phone out of reach to avoid temptations of peeking at an incoming text or call.
- Do not eat or drink while driving.
- Do your makeup before leaving for your destination.
- Set your desired radio station or podcast before leaving.
- Make sure your child has everything they need for the ride before leaving.
- Be a good passenger and speak up if the driver is distracted.
