Upcoming Citywide Street Maintenance Projects
Published on May 04, 2026
The Public Works Department will soon begin construction of the following street improvement projects this summer. These projects are identified in the five-year street maintenance plan and will maintain the City’s pavement in good condition while implementing multi-modal transportation improvements. A map showing these project locations can be found here.
Pierce and Bay Roads / Safe Routes to School project
The project includes the installation of slurry seal, asphalt resurfacing, curb ramps, speed humps and signing and striping, including bicycle lanes. The limit of work spans Bay Road, from Van Buren Road to Ringwood Avenue, and Pierce Road, from Carlton Avenue to the intersection of Del Norte and Terminal Avenues. The project also includes intersection upgrades at Oak Knoll Lane and Oak Avenue and Sharon Road and Eastridge Avenue to promote safe routes to school. These improvements include new concrete bulb-outs, curb ramps, signing and striping and abutting sidewalk, curb and gutter. In addition, rectangular rapid flashing beacons will be installed at the Sharon Road crossing.
Construction is anticipated from May to August with the Safe Routes to School improvements scheduled during school summer break to minimize traffic disturbance. Please anticipate partial street closures during the course of work.
Additional information, including a map of the limit of work, is included on the project webpage.
2026 Slurry Seal project
The 2026 Slurry Seal project is City-wide and includes installation of eleven slurry seal applications along eleven streets and asphalt resurfacing along three streets locations. The scope of work also includes signing and striping improvements, minor concrete repairs and speed hump replacements at select locations. Construction is scheduled from early-May to July and temporary street closures are anticipated to accommodate the work.
Impacted residents and businesses will receive construction notices in advance of work. Staff will also provide recurring updates on both projects as part of the City’s weekly Construction News update.
