National Teen Driver Safety Week is Oct. 19–25. The Menlo Park Police Department is providing resources to help ensure teens stay safe on the road during National Teen Driver Safety Week. Traffic collisions are the leading cause of death for teens ages 15–18. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, 2,611 people were killed in crashes involving a teen driver in 2023. Of the teen passenger vehicle drivers who died that year, 53% were not wearing a seatbelt. This week serves as an important reminder to talk with your teen driver about the dangers and challenges they face on the road. Safety reminders:
Parents, remember that kids learn by example. Keep your eyes on the road and your hands on the wheel while driving.
