Happy National Public Works Week! This year’s theme is "advancing quality of life for all." Public Works is responsible for maintaining and improving the City’s streets, parks, water and stormwater systems, traffic signals, trees, fleet and public buildings. The department's mission is to ensure the health and safety of the community in an efficient, sustainable and cost effective manner.
This year, the Public Works department received full accreditation from the American Public Works Association (APWA). Public works staff has devoted the past two years to standardizing and establishing procedures that aid in advancing the quality of life for the City and its residents. After a rigorous evaluation process and hard work from our staff, we received accreditation. The department is the sixteenth agency in the State of California and the first agency in San Mateo County to receive this accreditation.
This week, the City Council will proclaim the week of May 19 – 25 as National Public Works Week and asks the public to join them in recognizing the invaluable contributions of these dedicated professionals, as they continually strive to improve the quality of life for us all.
