The Automated Meter Infrastructure (AMI) project will replace or retrofit all water meters for Menlo Park Municipal Water (MPMW) customers beginning fall 2023. If you are unsure if you are a MPMW customer, enter your address into the City of Menlo Park’s interactive water provider map to check.
A $500,000 federal Bureau of Reclamation WaterSMART grant partially funds the AMI project. The upgraded digital meters can transmit accurate, hourly water use data in near real-time via a radio transceiver to a secure data center. MPMW customers can access this data anytime through a user-friendly customer portal from computer or mobile devices.
This project provides MPMW customers with a better understanding of their water use and early notifications of possible leaks or high usage to take immediate action. The AMI project will also enhance customer service, reduce water loss and improve billing operations.
How AMI works:
In the coming weeks, informational brochures will be mailed to all customers outlining further project details. Customers will also receive a postcard notice in the mail 2-3 weeks before their addresses’ scheduled installation. The work will take less than an hour, and water service may be temporarily unavailable.
Customers do not need an appointment or to be present during the installation.
