Help SamTrans reimagine Dumbarton by March 6
Published on February 09, 2026
SamTrans is reimagining the unused Dumbarton freight railroad line to bring fast, reliable, zero-emission bus service and improvements for people biking and walking to the communities of Southeast San Mateo County, including East Palo Alto, Menlo Park, Redwood City, Atherton and North Fair Oaks.
The Dumbarton freight corridor runs across the southern San Francisco Bay, connecting Redwood City with Union City. The route once played an important role in regional rail service, but it is now in poor condition and underutilized.
Reimagine Dumbarton aims to identify opportunities for this corridor to connect residents with local community destinations, regional employment centers and the regional transportation network. Your feedback is essential. Get involved by taking the first online survey available now through March 6 and attending upcoming events to meet members of the Reimagine Dumbarton team.
This is the first in a series of community surveys and will ask about your current travel habits, transportation challenges and barriers experienced along this portion of the corridor, and priorities for travel.
