Pool drainage

Before draining any pool, please contact West Bay Sanitary District at 650-321-0384.

When designing drainage for all swimming pools, pool decks, fountains and spas: 

  1. Backwash drains shall be directly connected to the sanitary sewer by permit from the sanitary sewer company. 
  2. The main drain shall not be directly connected to either the sanitary sewer or the storm drain system. 
  3. Only temporary connections are allowed from the main drain to the sanitary sewer. 
  4. Obtain plan approval and a permit from the sanitary sewer company for temporary and permanent drainage connections. 
  5. Pool decks may drain to landscaped areas where practicable.
