California Building Standards Code

Building codes are regularly updated. The following codes, as approved by the California Building Standards Commission, have been adopted by the City of Menlo Park. 

2025 California Building Codes effective January 1, 2026

Applications received on or after January 1, 2026, must meet the following set of building codes:

• The 2025 California Administrative Code, Part 1 of the California Building Standards Code, Title 24 California Code of Regulations;
• The 2025 California Building Code, Part 2 of the California Building Standards Code, Title 24 California Code of Regulations, including Appendices I and J;
• The 2025 California Residential Code, Part 2.5 of the California Building Standards Code, Title 24 California Code of Regulations, including Appendices BB, BF, BO, and CI;
• The 2025 California Electrical Code, Part 3 of the California Building Standards Code, Title 24 California Code of Regulations;
• The 2025 California Mechanical Code, Part 4 of the California Building Standards Code, Title 24 California Code of Regulations;
• The 2025 California Plumbing Code, Part 5 of the California Building Standards Code, Title 24 California Code of Regulations;
• The 2025 California Energy Code, Part 6 of the California Building Standards Code, Title 24 California Code of Regulations;
• The 2025 California Wild-Land Urban Interface Code, Part 7 of the California Building Standards Code, Title 24 California Code of Regulations;
• The 2025 California Historical Building Code, Part 8 of the California Building Standards Code, Title 24 California Code of Regulations;
