Local Hazard Mitigation Plan

Reducing Risk. Strengthening Resilience.

Disasters can’t always be prevented — but their impacts can be reduced.

The Local Hazard Mitigation Plan identifies the natural and human-caused hazards that could affect our community and outlines actions to reduce risks before disasters happen. The goal is simple: protect lives, reduce property damage, and minimize disruption.

The plan addresses hazards such as:

* Flooding
* Drought
* Wildfire
* Severe weather
* Terrorism and cyber threats
* Pandemic events
* Climate change impacts

Planning Ahead for a Safer Community
In 2026, the City is working with the San Mateo County Department of Emergency Management to update the Local Hazard Mitigation Plan.

This collaboration ensures that:

* Local risks are clearly identified
* Mitigation strategies reflect current conditions
* The City remains eligible for certain FEMA mitigation funding
* Long-term resilience remains a priority

Prepared communities recover faster and adapt more effectively.

Planning today reduces risk tomorrow.
Together, we are #MenloPrepared.
